Local News in Brief : No-Growth Petition Filed

Share

A group of northeast Pasadena residents submitted an initiative petition to the city Monday calling for a moratorium on major commercial and residential development until 1990.

The initiative would also require that developers pay for new park space, help pay for street and utility improvements and replace any housing destroyed to make room for developments.

The sponsors, the Northeast Pasadena Residents Assn., turned in 7,847 signatures to the city clerk, who must verify that it contains at least 6,312 valid signatures, representing 10% of the city’s registered voters. If enough signatures are validated, the measure will appear on the June 7 ballot.
