Two brothers were shot to death and another man was wounded during an argument near the tribal lodge at the Rincon Indian Reservation late Sunday night, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department reported.

Deputy Coroner Max Murphy identified the dead as Frank Dion Calac, 17, and Stanley Bruce Calac, 26, both unemployed residents of the reservation.

Murphy said Frank Calac died of a gunshot wound to the back and Stanley Calac died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

A third man, Jack Warren Musick, 26, a resident of the Pauma Indian Reservation, was treated at Palomar Memorial Hospital in Escondido for a gunshot wound to the hand and released early Sunday, deputies said.

Deputies received a call from one of the victims about 11:30 p.m. Arriving deputies found Frank Calac near the tribal lodge at 33700 Valley Center Road. He said there were other victims and directed deputies to the tribal hall, deputies said.

Quarrel Over Seat

Musick was found a short distance from the hall. The older Calac was found dead in the parking lot behind the hall after Musick and Frank Calac had been taken to Palomar Memorial Hospital.

Frank Calac died while in surgery at 5:30 a.m. Monday morning, deputies said.

Sheriff’s Lt. Bill Baxter said investigators had not determined Monday who fired the shots but said the shooting apparently was triggered by a quarrel among the victims and another man over who would sit in the front passenger seat of a car believed to be owned by Musick.

Deputies are looking for Danny Mendoza, 22, a resident of the Pala Indian Reservation and a cousin of the Calac brothers, for questioning in the case.

Deputies said Mendoza is believed to be in the North County area and armed with a pistol.
