Local News in Brief : Arrest in Mercy Killing
An 80-year-old Eagle Rock man was booked on suspicion of murder Tuesday in the apparent mercy killing of his terminally ill 79-year-old wife, police said.
Dan Nuckolls is suspected of shooting his wife, Charlotte, who suffered a stroke last November that left her bedridden and partially paralyzed, Los Angeles Police Sgt. Brad Kubea said.
The woman was pronounced dead at Glendale Adventist Hospital.
A neighbor, who asked that his name not be used, said the couple had been married 53 years.
“They had no children, very few friends and they were intensely devoted to each other. . . . She just kept getting worse and worse and he kept worrying more,” he said.
