A California Assembly committee voted 10-1 Tuesday to let the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel keep David Hockney’s mural on the bottom of its swimming pool--for the time being. The Health Committee voted to send AB-2740--by Assemblyman Mike Roos (D-Los Angele)--to the Ways and Means Committee. A state Health Services Department order had demanded that the pool mural be painted over by March 15, citing possible safety regulations violations. The mural by Hockney, whose retrospective opened this month at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, was added to the pool’s bottom as part of the renovation completed last April.
