The Celebrity Syndrome

Re “Liz Taylor Lightens Up” (by Bob Sipchen, Jan. 25): I question the value of books written by well-known people dealing with a serious subject that is not in their realm of experience and knowledge.

Weight loss is such an individual approach and to have a person like Elizabeth Taylor tell her story in the hope of having people emulate her weight loss formula, can be unrealistic. After all, how many people have the access and the time to spend at high-priced fat farms, like Palm-Aire in Florida, where Taylor had a highly publicized, repetitive stay? Just losing a significant amount of weight once does not make one an expert on the subject.
