THE PREPS : Century League Basketball : Joyce Paces Santa Ana to Win Over Villa Park
Santa Ana High School opened a 25-9 first-quarter lead over visiting Villa Park and cruised to a 64-55 boys’ basketball victory Friday.
Center Bobby Joyce led Santa Ana (23-3 overall, 10-0 in league play) with 23 points, and Willie Lane scored 19.
Villa Park’s Roger Branstine led all scorers with 26 points and Steve Waldrip added 15 points. Villa Park finishes the season 2-20 overall, 0-10 in league play.
Foothill 62, Canyon 57--Visiting Foothill, which finishes second in league play, broke open the game with a 22-point third quarter. Foothill (15-8, 7-3) was led by Bill Mazurie with 21 points and Greg Rieber added 20 points. Canyon’s Bill Pecheco led all scorers with 33 points. Canyon finishes 10-14 overall, 3-7 in league.
Santa Ana Valley 69, El Modena 60--The victory gives visiting Santa Ana Valley the third Century League playoff spot.
