Local News in Brief : Doctor in Assembly Race

Dr. Sy Alban, a Long Beach orthopedic surgeon, announced Friday he would seek the Republican nomination in the 58th Assembly District in the June 7 primary election.

Alban, a resident of Long Beach since 1953, will try to unseat incumbent Republican Dennis Brown, who was elected in 1978.

The 58th District includes parts of Long Beach and Huntington Beach and all of Seal Beach, Signal Hill and Catalina Island.

Others who have filed are Libertarian Party candidate Scott Stier and Peace and Freedom Party candidate Richard Green. No Democrat has announced for the primary.
