Local News in Brief : Stamper Place Gets the Boot; Burbank Prefers Mystic View

Share

Stamper Place, named for a former Burbank city councilman, will no longer be called Stamper Place.

It will be called Mystic View Place, the Burbank City Council decided Tuesday night, after 15 residents of the street petitioned to have its name changed.

Whereas their street is beautiful, the residents of the hillside cul-de-sac argued, the name Stamper Place is not.

Karen Hoefel, 37, who has lived on the street for two years, said the residents have nothing personal against the man for whom the street was named.

“I don’t know him,” Hoefel said of former City Councilman Larry Stamper. “And I’m not too crazy about the new name. The view is not mystic. But all the other view names were taken.”

Stamper Place did not go down without a fight, however.

Councilmen Robert R. Bowne and Al F. Dossin opposed the name change. Bowne was concerned that the change might cost the city thousands of dollars. Dossin said that naming the street after Stamper was an honor that should not be taken away.

But Stamper himself did not seem all that concerned:

“Maybe I’ll change my name to Mystic View,” he said. “But seriously, it’s fine. It’s their street.”
