A sword-wielding 17-year-old boy stabbed his 15-year-old ex-girlfriend in the thigh and throat and injured two of the girl’s relatives in a Paradise Hills home, police said.

The girl was in fair condition at UC San Diego Medical Center on Wednesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said. The girl’s mother received stitches in her hand after the Tuesday attack and was released, police said. The girl’s sister was treated for a superficial stomach wound and released.

The youth was still being sought Wednesday afternoon.

Police Lt. Rulette Armstead said the youth is a former San Diego resident who now lives in another state.

“There was speculation that he might have gone out of state, but we don’t know that for a fact,” she said.

Police spokesman Bill Robinson said the 6:37 p.m. incident in the 1900 block of Saipan Drive stemmed from a reconciliation attempt by the boy.

Robinson gave this account:

The boy pulled out a knife, demanding that his former girlfriend leave with him. Relatives, including the girl’s mother, disarmed him. He chased the girl upstairs and grabbed an ornamental sword adorning one of the bedroom walls.

He followed the girl downstairs, and when her relatives tried to protect her, the boy attacked them with the sword before attacking the girl.
