Man, 37, Arrested in Death of Boy at Casino
A 37-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the slaying of a 7-year-old California boy whose body was found a month after he disappeared from a Nevada casino in November, an FBI spokesman said Saturday.
Howard Lee Haupt was arrested Friday at his home without incident and booked for investigation of interstate flight to avoid prosecution, said FBI special agent James Bolenbach.
Alexander Harris of Mountain View, Calif., disappeared from Whiskey Pete’s casino in Stateline, Nev., on Nov. 27. His body was discovered under a trailer near the casino Dec. 30 by a groundskeeper who spotted Alexander’s glasses. The boy had been playing video games at the time of his disappearance.
FBI agents and Las Vegas homicide detectives took Haupt into custody after serving a murder warrant and a federal warrant charging him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. Haupt is being held in San Diego County Jail pending extradition to Nevada.
