Local News in Brief : Santa Ana : Man Shot in Stomach With 20-Gauge Shotgun
A 28-year-old Santa Ana man was in critical condition after being beaten with the butt of a 20-gauge shotgun then shot in the stomach following a fight at the Mazatlan Bar Wednesday night in Santa Ana, police said.
Mario Garcia Espinoza was in critical condition Thursday at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital, a spokeswoman said.
Shortly after 8 p.m., Espinoza and about half a dozen other people got into a brawl in the doorway of the bar in the 3400 block of West 5th Street, Police Lt. Jack Nelson said.
One man ran out to his vehicle in the parking lot and returned to the bar with the shotgun, Nelson said. The gunman fled with three others in a red pickup westbound on 5th Street and is still at large, Nelson said.
