A 38-year-old man was shot to death early Sunday in Southeast San Diego, police said.

The shooting occurred shortly after 2 a.m. near 25th Street and Imperial Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found the victim, Joseph Roman of National City, lying on a sidewalk with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. Roman was taken to the UC San Diego Medical Center, where he died several hours later.

Eyewitnesses told police that Roman was shot by a man whom he had talked to briefly before the shooting. As of late Sunday, the suspect was still at large and police said that they had no motive for the shooting.
