Edberg, Mecir and Becker Top-Seeded as Play Begins Today at Indian Wells
First-round action begins today at 10 a.m. in the $702,500 Newsweek Champions Cup at Grand Champions Resort in Indian Wells.
The top-seeded players, in order, are last year’s runner-up Stefan Edberg, Miloslav Mecir, defending champion Boris Becker, Pat Cash, Tim Mayotte, Martin Jaite, Andre Agassi and Emilio Sanchez.
However, none of the seeded players is scheduled for first-round action today. Today’s featured matches include Guy Forget vs. Tomas Smid, Michael Chang vs. Amos Mansdorf and Jimmy Arias vs. Aaron Krickstein. Both Mansdorf and Chang received wild cards into this event. Chang, the 16-year-old from Placentia, made his debut earlier this month as a professional at the tour stop in Memphis.
