Local News in Brief : Mission Viejo : Advice Sought on Grant for Improving English

Share

The Saddleback Valley Unified School District is seeking parents of students who speak only limited English to serve on an advisory council for a federal grant.

Ski Harrison, assistant to the superintendent, said parents on the council would help the district develop an application for the $250,000 grant. The money, if obtained, would help the district provide programs for new immigrants and other students who have only limited English skills, Harrison said.

Persons interested in serving on the advisory council should attend a meeting at 4:15 p.m. Thursday at the district board room, 25631 Diseno Drive. At that meeting, nominations will be received and requirements will be discussed, Harrison said.

A public meeting on the grant application will be held at 5 p.m. Monday in the district board room. That meeting, which is open to anyone wishing to attend, will focus on the district’s proposed use of the federal grant.

Copies of the grant application are available at the district offices.
