A Stockton nursing home may be forced to either shut down or sell to another owner because of alleged state Health Code violations that contributed to the death of an elderly patient. The Health Services Department has fined the owners of the Villa Rehabilitation Center $71,000, alleging that the home allowed a patient to become dehydrated, which contributed to his death. The state also alleged that the Villa did not treat bed sores of another patient and allowed a resident to get drugs from an unlocked medication cart. The Villa’s six-month license expired this week and will not be renewed because of the citations, the health agency ruled. The Villa’s license has been extended until April 15 so the owners will have time to sell the facility or place residents in new homes.
