Former Atlanta sports agent Jim Abernethy was found guilty of a misdemeanor tampering charge at Opelika, Ala., and sentenced to a year in jail.
The jury of seven women and five men convicted Abernethy of tampering with a sports event after deliberating nearly 2 1/2 hours. They also found Abernethy not guilty of two other misdemeanor charges, commercial bribery and violation of deceptive trade law.
The charges stemmed from Abernethy’s dealings with former Auburn football star Kevin Porter.
Abernethy, who remained free on $1,000 bond, said he would appeal the verdict to the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals.
