Two people who left Van Nuys Airport Saturday in a small plane were found dead Wednesday in the wreckage of the aircraft along the slopes of Frazier Mountain in the Los Padres National Forest.

Members of the Civil Air Patrol found the plane about 1 p.m. on the rugged slopes 70 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles by tracking a signal from an emergency transmitter on the aircraft, patrol spokesman Frank Burnham said.

John Barnard, 62, and his wife, Louise, who lived in the Malibou Lake area near Agoura, had taken off in the single-engine Grumman Tiger, planning to go to Pine Mountain Lake near Stockton, where they had a second home.
