The State : Officers Shoot, Kill Motorist
Police shot and killed a Chino man in Santa Ana after he stepped on the accelerator of his truck as an officer was trying to arrest him, dragging the officer 30 feet. Police said Toby Weiss, 29, had been weaving in and out of traffic when officers spotted him on the Corona del Mar Freeway. Authorities said Weiss sped away, leading officers on a chase over several freeways and surface streets. In Santa Ana, Weiss’ vehicle spun out of control and stalled. As a Costa Mesa patrolman reached into the truck, authorities said, Weiss suddenly restarted and reversed the truck, dragging the officer, who suffered minor cuts and bruises. Police officers from several agencies opened fire, killing Weiss instantly.
