Local News in Brief : Newport Beach : Lawyer Yacobozzi Joins Race for Badham’s Seat
William Yacobozzi Jr., a Newport Beach lawyer, announced Friday that he will seek the Republican nomination to succeed retiring Rep. Robert Badham in the 40th Congressional District.
Yacobozzi, 46, said he entered the race after a poll showed that none of the three leading Republican candidates had a major share of support among voters.
Yacobozzi, who was born and reared on Chicago’s South Side but has lived in the county for 25 years, said his lack of previous political experience could work to his advantage.
“Because I have not been involved in politics, I owe no favors to special interest groups,” he said. “My campaign will be underwritten primarily from personal funds, which will enable me to fairly represent all constituents.”
Yacobozzi said he earned a college degree in business, finance and law by attending night school for 14 years and working.
