A suspected drunk driver led police on a 90-minute chase early this morning that began in North Hollywood and ended in Bakersfield when the suspect’s car ran out of gasoline, authorities said.

Officers tried to stop the man at about 1:30 a.m. at Camarillo Street and Vineland Avenue when they saw his car straddling lanes and driving slowly, police officer Richard Bain said. The driver pulled over for police, then sped away, running a red light and leading Bain and his partner, Officer Patricia Fogerson, through San Fernando Valley streets before getting on the northbound San Diego Freeway. The pursuit reached speeds of 90 m.p.h. as Los Angeles police were joined by California Highway Patrol officers in chasing the suspect north onto the Golden State Freeway.
