The Belly Up will have a day to recover from Leary’s act before the the Bus Boys--five blacks and one Latino who gained fame in the late 1970s and early ‘80s for stage shows that parodied black stereotypes and white punk-rock--take the stage Thursday night.

The Los Angeles group’s first album, 1980’s “Minimum Wage Rock ‘n’ Roll,” was also a big success, both critically and commercially, for satirical song lyrics like “I am bigger than a nigger/Wanna be an all-American man/Wanna join the Ku Klux Klan/Play in a rock ‘n’ roll band.”

But eventually, the novelty wore off, and after a starring role in the 1982 movie, “48 HRS.,” their fortunes dimmed. The Bus Boys have been plying the national nightclub circuit, with nominal success, ever since.
