Local News in Brief : Mayoral Issue on Ballot

Share

Pasadena voters will decide June 7 whether the city should hold mayoral elections and add an eighth position to the Board of Directors.

In a 1986 advisory vote, residents favored a citywide mayoral election. The mayor’s position is now rotated every year among the seven board members.

If voters again endorse the idea, the first mayoral election will be held in November and a runoff, if necessary, will be held in December.

The ballot measure also gives voters the chance to decide whether to raise the salaries of board members from $250 a month to a maximum of $1,200 a month--or $2,400 in the case of the mayor--with the total determined by the number of meetings held.

The Board of Directors voted Monday to put the issues on the June 7 ballot.
