Forecast Calls for Breezy but Nice Weekend

A mild Santa Ana condition is expected to breeze into San Diego this weekend on the tail of some lively winds.

“It looks like a real nice weekend coming up, but before we get to it we still have to cross a few windy conditions,” said Wilbur Shigehara, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in San Diego.

The high winds that were anticipated Wednesday night never materialized, Shigehara said, and the previous wind warning has been downgraded to an advisory. Although winds were clocked at up to 18 m.p.h. at Lindbergh Field on Thursday, there were no reports of wind damage or other problems in the county.

San Diegans may still find the weekend a little breezy, with winds gusting from 10 to 20 m.p.h., Shigehara said. The mountains will be the hardest hit, with gusts of up to 25 to 45 m.p.h., which could create a hazard for trailers and campers.

By Saturday, however, the wind is expected to die down and temperatures are expected to rise.

Friday’s downtown temperature will reach 65 degrees, about one degree below normal for this time of year, according to Shigehara. Temperatures at the airport will nudge a little closer to the norm Saturday and Sunday, with highs of 66 to 67. Nighttime temperatures at Lindbergh Field will drop to about 49.

Inland highs will be 68 to 72 Friday and will reach 70 to 75 Saturday and Sunday. The nights will turn cool, with temperatures of 35 to 45 degrees. Some areas may even experience frost overnight.

Temperatures at the beaches will hit 64 to 68 Friday and are expected to climb to 65 to 70 later in the weekend. Lows will drop to 43 to 52 degrees.

Mountain highs will remain in the 50s, with lows between 26 and 32 degrees. Desert highs will be in the 70s, with overnight lows in the 40s, dipping into the 30s in some areas near Borrego Springs.

Shigehara said a high-pressure front off San Diego will continue to protect the area from storms through the early part of next week.
