Share

The California Highway Patrol was searching Thursday for two men in a red Nissan pickup who beat and tried to run down a man they apparently thought had cut them off on the San Gabriel Freeway in Whittier.

Daniel Depa, 32, was treated for his injuries at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier, said CHP Officer Lyle Whitten.

Whitten said Depa was chased along the freeway near Telegraph Road to Beverly Boulevard Wednesday afternoon by a pickup driver. The chase ended when they were stopped by traffic near Beverly Boulevard. Two males in the pickup got out and attempted to beat Depa through his window. When Depa got out of his car, they knocked him down and began kicking and beating him, Whitten said. They then tried to run him over but missed.
