A 9-pound infant boy was wrapped in a bath towel and left at the entrance to the Kaiser Medical Clinic on Bunker Hill Street early Friday, police said.

Baby Boy Doe, as authorities are calling the infant, was in fair condition at UC San Diego Medical Center Friday afternoon, suffering from slight dehydration, hospital spokeswoman Eileen Callahan said. “He’s doing fine now,” she said.

The infant was found at about 6:30 a.m. at the clinic at 3033 Bunker Hill St. by a security guard, police spokesman Bill Robinson said. The infant was found in a cardboard box and wrapped in a large bath towel with a bottle of formula next to him.

The boy may have been less than a day old, and his umbilical cord was secured with a rubber band, Robinson said.

The security guard rushed the infant across the street to the Mission Bay Hospital emergency room, where the child was found to be in good health, a nursing supervisor said.

The child was later taken to UCSD Medical Center, Robinson said. The child has dark hair and a ruddy complexion.

Robinson asked that anyone with information about the child or his parents call police at 531-2260 or Crime Stoppers at 235-TIPS.
