Pico Rivera to Fete 30 Years With a Parade

Entry forms for this city’s 30th anniversary parade April 30 can be obtained at the Recreation and Community Services Department, 6767 Passons Blvd., or mailed upon request by calling 942-2000, Ext. 260. The deadline for returning the completed forms is April 11. There is no fee.

The parade theme will focus on recognition of the 30th anniversary of the incorporation of Pico Rivera on Jan. 29, 1958. Entry classifications will include bands, ROTC drill teams and color guard units, percussion squads, drill teams, drum majors, float entries by civic groups, service clubs and commercial firms, miscellaneous marching units, novelty groups, antique autos and clowns. There also will be 19 categories for equestrian entries.

Awards will include sweepstakes trophies for the best musical unit and best float, and the mayor’s trophy for the best local entry. Trophies for first, second and third place will be presented for all categories, and band entries will also vie for fourth- and fifth-place recognition. All judging will be based on execution of theme, originality of design and spectator appeal.

The formation area for the parade will be in the vicinity of Slauson Avenue along Rivera Road at Passons Boulevard. The parade route will be northbound on Passons past the reviewing stand near the City Hall and El Rancho High School. Parade units will continue to the disbanding area at Smith Park on Mines Avenue near the Rosemead Boulevard intersection.
