Journalists
Journalists are sometimes characterized as insensitive brutes who intrude on ordinary people caught in a disaster and make a traumatic situation even worse with their inquisitiveness. I now know from experience that it just doesn’t happen that way, at least not in Los Angeles.
When our Glendora home was damaged in a recent windstorm, many reporters and photographers visited or telephoned for information. Everyone from the newspapers, radio and television stations who contacted my family was sensitive to our emotional state and sincerely sympathetic about our loss.
Times reporter Eric Malnic phrased his questions kindly, and photographer Jose Galvez stepped carefully among the rubble. And best of all, they got the facts right. I sincerely appreciate their professionalism.
After experiencing this small-scale media blitz, I now know that the news professionals in Los Angeles are genuinely nice people.
