Chapman College officials Tuesday ordered student director Joel Moffett to cut a five-minute nude scene from a play he wrote and planned to stage, calling it “inappropriate” for a campus production. Charging the private Christian-oriented college in Orange with censorship and infringement on artistic freedom, Moffett, 21, said he plans to fight the decision. He’s organizing a protest next week with the school’s student arts group to try to persuade officials to change their minds. The 75-minute play examines how five characters evolve from followers into strong individuals. It is scheduled to be performed May 18-20.
