Law enforcement officials, with the help of a computer crime detection program, arrested two suspects in at least 14 holdups of customers at bank automated-teller machines, authorities said Thursday.

Regional crime analysts learned through their anti-crime computer program of a string of similar robberies in the South Bay, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Van Mosley said.

Based on predictions from the computer, detectives from the South Bay Burglary Team, comprising Redondo Beach and Manhattan Beach police and members of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, conducted a surveillance Wednesday night.

The investigators detected two men in a car apparently “casing” a bank in Redondo Beach, Mosley said. They stopped the men, who resembled suspects in the series of robberies, and found a .22-caliber pistol, he said.

Keith Lee Harris, 20, and Patrick Pierson, 22, both of Los Angeles, were booked on suspicion of robbery and attempted murder and held without bail.
