WHO WORKS FOR THE COUNTY?

Share

The number of minority group members employed by Los Angeles County increased 11% between 1977 and 1987 to nearly 60% of the work force, according to a study conducted for the county Board of Supervisors. The report, prepared by county Affirmative Action Compliance Officer Robert A. Arias, urges active recruitment of more Latinos and American Indians, who are underrepresented on the county work force, and the promotion of more minorities to top management jobs, which are primarily held by whites. When total county employment is measured against the overall county population, however, whites are the most underrepresented group--comprising 40.5% of the county’s work force and 52.4% of the general population.
