Local News in Brief : Boy Kicks the Jackpot
A 14-year-old Van Nuys boy was walking to school when he kicked a brown paper bag.
There’s nothing unusual about boys kicking objects on their way to school, but this bag happened to be stuffed with $2,000 in cash, Los Angeles police said.
Accompanied by his mother, Jason Lamb, a ninth-grader at Fulton Junior High School, turned the money over to police late Thursday night, Sgt. Joseph Brazas said.
“He saw the brown paper bag on the ground and, as boys do, he started kicking it and found out that it was full of money,” Brazas said. “When you have money that’s not in an identifiable situation, not many people would turn it in.”
If a claim for the money is not filed in the next 97 days, Jason can claim the money for himself, Brazas said.
“Unless a person knows exactly what’s in that bag, the amount and denominations, Jason just got himself a college trust fund,” Brazas said.
