College Roundup : Pacific Defeats Titans in 14th
Bo Hill doubled home two runs in the 14th inning to give the University of the Pacific a 7-6 victory over Cal State Fullerton Sunday in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. baseball game at Pacific.
Fullerton had taken a 6-5 lead in the top of the 14th, when Mike Ross singled home Shane Flores, who had doubled. Ross was 4 for 6 in the game.
Steve Pirolli (1-0) pitched 7 innings in relief for the victory. Paul Johnson (3-3) pitched seven innings of relief and took the loss.
Pacific’s Deryk Gross was 6 for 6, scored 2 runs and had 2 RBIs. Ralph Ramirez went 3 for 5 with an RBI for Fullerton.
Fullerton is 20-9 overall and 2-1 in the PCAA. Pacific is 8-17 and 1-2.
In nonconference softball:
Cal State Fullerton 1-5, Toledo 0-3--Sophomore right fielder Carey Hess led host Fullerton to a sweep. Hess went 2 for 3 in both games and scored a run.
In the first game, Cal State Fullerton broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the seventh inning. Fullerton pitcher Anjie Bryant (14-2) hit a bases-loaded grounder back to the mound, but Toledo pitcher Patty Barrett (2-3) overthrew the catcher to let the winning run score.
Bryant (14-2), a freshman, threw a 2-hit shutout with 5 strikeouts.
In the second game, Fullerton (27-5) spotted the Rockets three runs before rallying. Jackie Pittman (6-2) pitched a complete game for the victory.
