Michael McDonald to Perform : Sea World Set to Celebrate 25 Years

A concert by former Doobie Brothers singer Michael McDonald and the unveiling of a new killer whale show will kick off a year of festivities--beginning Saturday--celebrating Sea World’s 25th anniversary.

Singer Gary Puckett and The Association, two 1960s rock acts that underscore Sea World’s 1964 opening, will play 8 p.m. concerts each day March 27-April 2 at the park.

The new killer whale performance, called “Shamu’s 25th Anniversary Show,” will not include trainers in the pool, however. Sea World removed trainers from the water as a part of its killer whale shows after an accident last November.

Trainer John Sillick was seriously injured during a performance when one of the huge mammals leaped through the water and crashed into Sillick while he was riding another whale.
