Clippers Lose 26th Straight Road Game
The Clippers, who did not score in the final two minutes, lost their 26th consecutive road game Monday night, a 107-99 defeat to the Phoenix Suns.
Leading 99-97 on Earl Cureton’s layup with 2:19 to play, the Clippers missed their last four shots. They are 2-30 on the road and losers of 25 of their last 28 games overall.
The Suns, who went on a 14-2 run in the last three minutes, extended their winning streak to a season-high four games. It was only their 8th win in the last 33 games.
They were led by Walter Davis, who had 24 points, and Jeff Hornacek, who scored 8 of his 17 in the final 2:05 and had 10 assists in the game.
“We lost to them here once already,” said Davis, referring to a 112-96 Clippers’ win Nov. 20. “We didn’t want it to happen again.”
Hornacek’s layup with 2:05 remaining forged the 14th tie of the game and 9th of the fourth quarter, 99-99. Davis made two free throws with 1:43 left to put the Suns ahead to stay, 101-99, and Hornacek added six more free throws to keep Phoenix ahead.
Mike Woodson had 24 points and Ken Norman 16. Michael Cage had 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
Eddie Johnson scored 22 points, and rookie Armon Gilliam added 11 points and 11 rebounds for Phoenix.
