Italian Alberto Tomba, the Olympic skiing double gold medalist, claimed his sixth World Cup slalom victory of the season, beating Tetsuya Okabe of Japan to regain the lead in the overall World Cup standings.

Tomba posted the best time in the morning run and wound up with an aggregate time of 1 minute 52.75 seconds. Tomba took a two-point lead over Pirmin Zurbriggen of Switzerland, who finished fourth, for the lead in their duel for the overall title.
