College Spring Sports : Master’s Pounds Western Baptist

The Master’s defeated Western Baptist (Ore.), 13-2, Tuesday in a nonconference baseball game in Newhall that was called after seven innings because of the 10-run rule.

Cheated out of an extra at-bat, Tod Skinner of Master’s made the most out of his five plate appearances. Skinner had four hits, three runs batted in, scored a run and stole a base.

Mark MacArthur scored three runs and had three RBIs for the Mustangs, who improved their overall record to 14-15.

Mark Litz went four innings in picking up his first win of the season. Litz and reliever David Hendrickson allowed only two singles and a home run.

Westmont 9, Cal Lutheran 3--Westmont broke a 2-2 tie with a five-run fifth inning in a Golden State Athletic Conference baseball game on its home field.

Cal Lutheran starter Chris Vanole (2-4) took the loss. The Kingsmen (10-12 overall, 4-4 in the GSAC) had seven hits but committed two errors.

College of Canyons 12, Bakersfield College 2--Bill Picketts had two hits, including a home run, and drove in a pair of runs as the host Cougars improved their Western State Conference record to 9-0.

Randy Cooper also hit a home run for Canyons (14-3).

Valley 4, Rio Hondo 4--Two Valley errors in the eighth opened the door for Rio Hondo as the Roadrunners rallied for three runs in the Southern California Conference game in Whittier.

The game was called after 12 innings because of darkness.

Danny Miner had two hits for Valley (8-10-1, 5-1-1) and Mark Sallin drove in two runs.

Glendale 7, Pierce 3--Glendale rallied for five runs in the final four innings to snap a 2-2 tie in the Western State Conference game at Glendale.

Sebastian Goodlow hit a home run, Pierce’s only extra-base hit. The Brahmas (9-8, 3-6) had seven hits and committed two errors; Glendale had 12 hits.

MEN’S TENNIS

Pierce d. Santa Monica, 9-0--Pierce remained undefeated in Western State Conference play with a convincing sweep at Santa Monica. The Brahmas (10-0-1, 9-0) lost only one set.

Sang Kim and Jonathan Holiday each won singles matches and teamed to win No. 1 doubles. Bill Kearsley played No. 1 singles for Pierce and won, 6-4, 6-2.
