Mountain Lion Hunting in California

A friend asked me to help obtain signatures for a petition to help protect the California mountain lion. I have been sincerely moved by everyone I have asked to sign.
They are appalled at the idea of allowing open hunting by permit of one of our state’s few naturally wild animals. They are even more astounded that the Fish and Game Commission wants to reinstitute hunting despite laws already in existence that permit killing of lions when livestock or humans are endangered. Even in the wake of the March 9 shooting of a cougar in a residential area, not one person I have approached has refused to sign. Is anyone in Sacramento listening?
