Dylan, Ronstadt, Young Added to Pacific Amphitheatre ’88 Bill

Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Linda Ronstadt and Hank Williams Jr. are among the acts recently added to the Pacific Amphitheatre’s 1988 concert season.

The Costa Mesa venue, with its capacity of 18,765, will start up in earnest during May. Two early season rock shows by Yes and Kiss already have taken place. In announcing a spring-to-fall schedule of 31 concerts, amphitheater general manager Steve Redfearn said he expects to fill out the lineup as the season goes on, bringing the total number of concert dates to about 45 or 50.

Ricky Skaggs and Sweethearts of the Rodeo, May 15; the Beach Boys and Gallagher, May 21; Heart, June 3; INXS, June 4; Dan Fogelberg, June 5; Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea, June 10; Sandi Patti, June 11; Linda Ronstadt with her “Canciones de mi Padre” all-Spanish tribute to Mexican music, June 25-26; Tiffany, July 2; Willie Nelson on an early July date to be announced; Hall and Oates, July 14; Pat Boone, Deniece Williams, First Call and the Imperials, July 30; Bob Dylan, July 31; Jimmy Buffett, Aug. 5-6; Dizzy Gillespie, Aug. 7; Hank Williams Jr., Aug. 12; Spyro Gyra, Aug. 19; Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme, Aug. 20; Moody Blues, Aug. 26; Miami Sound Machine, Aug. 27; David Sanborn, Aug. 28; James Taylor, Sept. 3; Dionne Warwick and Burt Bacharach, Sept. 4; Chicago, Sept. 16; Johnny Mathis and Henry Mancini, Sept. 17; Neil Young and Crazy Horse, Sept. 18; the Judds and Randy Travis, Sept. 25; Julio Iglesias, Sept. 30, and Barbara Mandrell, Oct. 23.

Tickets go on sale April 4 for Heart, April 11 for Skaggs and INXS, and April 18 for Fogelberg, Hancock, Patti and Ronstadt. Tickets for a six-show “Starlight Series” that includes Lawrence-Gorme, Warwick-Bacharach, Mathis-Mancini, Iglesias, Mandrell and the first Ronstadt concert will be sold as a package starting April 4.
