Local News in Brief : Flagpole Will Come Down

Share

The owner of a 132-foot-tall flagpole in Long Beach said Tuesday that he will stop flying his personal banner but that he will still fly his American flag overnight.

Thomas (Ski) Demski appeared before the City Council and berated city officials for ordering him to lower his 40-foot-long Old Glory after 10 p.m. City officials, acting on neighbors’ complaints, say the big flag makes too much noise when it is windy.

Demski, a candidate in Long Beach’s mayoral election April 12, said he will take down his “Pole Flag,” a banner that the city said constitutes advertising in a residential zone. But he said he will go to court to keep flying his American flag.
