Local News in Brief : Girl, 4, Shot Riding in Car
A 4 1/2-year-old girl was critically wounded Wednesday when shots were fired into the car in which she was riding by gunmen in a second auto that had pulled alongside on a Compton street.
The young girl, hit in the mouth by a bullet that exited her skull, was taken to Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center, where she was in critical condition. Compton police declined to release her name.
The shooting, police said, occurred about 5:30 p.m. near Rosecrans and Harris avenues. The girl was in a car with her mother and two male companions when another auto, a Chevrolet Camaro containing two people, pulled alongside, officers said.
An occupant of the second car fired three shots from a revolver before the car sped away. Police said they had no suspects.
