Prep Roundup : Fountain Valley Beats El Toro in Tennis
Mike Mell swept his three sets to lead Fountain Valley High School to an 11-7 victory over El Toro in tiebreaker play of the Glendora tennis tournament Wednesday at Goddard Park in Glendora.
The teams finished in a 9-9 tie in the first match and were also even in games won, 75-75, forcing a tiebreaker round.
Mell, who had won his three sets in the regulation match, won, 7-1, 7-1, 7-5, in tiebreaker play.
Fountain Valley is 9-2.
In Angelus League track and field:
Servite 69, Pius X 54--Freshman Mike Sullivan ran 10.2 seconds to finish second in the 100 meters to lead host Servite.
In nonleague swimming:
Loyola 99, Servite 73--Emmett Clark finished first in the 100-meter freestyle and second in the 200-meter freestyle for Servite at Loyola.
