3.9 Quake Hits Near El Centro
An earthquake measuring 3.9 on the Richter scale rattled the U.S.-Mexico border area today, but there were no reports of injury or damage, officials said.
The temblor, which struck at 7:38 a.m., was centered 30 miles southwest of El Centro, in Mexico, said Jacquelyn Dreher of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena. The quake went unnoticed by employees at the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department, a dispatcher said. No calls were received. Carmen Uribe of the county Office of Emergency Services also said the quake prompted no calls.
