Local News in Brief : Redevelopment Shelved

A proposal to create a redevelopment zone in central Van Nuys has been rejected by that area’s two city councilmen, effectively shelving the idea.
City Councilmen Marvin Braude and Joel Wachs, whose districts include downtown Van Nuys, said they agree with a recent city opinion that the downtown district is probably not blighted enough to warrant such a government renewal program.
Instead, Braude and Wachs favor using community planning measures to guide revitalization efforts already under way in the district.
