POP LP CHART : Second ‘Dancing’ Album Cracks Top Five

Both “Dirty Dancing” sound tracks are in the Top Five at the same time--a first for sound tracks. Now chart watchers are eager to see whether “Dirty Dancing” (still No. 1) and “More Dirty Dancing” (No. 5) will hold the top two positions next week. “Introducing Hardline According to Terence Trent D’Arby” is up five notches to No. 13. “Viva Hate” by ex-Smiths leader Morrissey is No. 59. Joni Mitchell’s “Chalk Mark in a Rain Storm” jumped from No. 113 to No. 55. White Lion’s “Pride” (No. 19) looks like a Top 10 candidate. Billy Ocean’s “Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car” is still the top pop single. Tiffany is in the Top 10 again with her single “I Saw Him Standing There” (No. 9).

* Offbeat albums by unconventional artists usually don’t sell very well. But David Byrne’s group, Talking Heads, continues to prove that quirkiness can be commercial. The Heads’ “Naked” album bolted up to No. 25 in just three weeks.
