The State : ‘Foolish Bear’ Gets Free Ride

Share

A young bear’s nocturnal visits into downtown Cloverdale ended when a group of residents chased him up a tree and a police sharpshooter shot him with a tranquilizer gun. It was the 200-pound bear’s third foray into the small town in search of food. Police blocked off streets, “not to keep the bear from the people, but the people from the bear,” said police dispatcher Shauna Tipler. “They loved it. It was comical. There was this bear walking around town followed by a huge crowd.” The snoozing bear got a free ride to a holding cage at Rancho Cordova near Sacramento and will be released into the wild later, Fish and Game spokesman Jim Swanson reported. “It’s just a young, foolish bear,” said Swanson.
