High School Baseball : Saugus Wastes Strong Effort by Bodeau, 3-1

Share

Jeff Bodeau pitched a complete-game five-hitter and struck out 12, but the senior right-hander’s efforts went for naught as Saugus lost to Palmdale, 3-1, in a Golden League game at Saugus.

“Jeff did a real good job,” Saugus Coach Doug Worley said. “He deserved better than that.”

Bodeau (5-3), who has allowed only four earned runs in his three losses, did not give up an earned run to Palmdale and moved to within eight strikeouts of the Saugus single-season record of 89, but that wasn’t enough to keep Saugus from its fourth loss in the past five games.

Saugus (10-6, 4-2 in league play) is 1-2 since returning from Florida, where the Centurions competed in the Colonial Classic. After the loss to Palmdale, Worley could only grumble about his team’s play since the tournament.

“I think they’re still on vacation,” he said. “We’ve had two straight frustration games.”

Against Palmdale, Saugus got its only run in the first inning after a leadoff single by Darrell Davis was followed by a one-out single by Tom Dodson.

Palmdale, which scored a run in the top of the first, broke the 1-1 tie with two runs on two hits, a wild pitch and a Saugus error in the second.
