Engine Parts Rip Into Plane; It Lands Safely

A Piedmont airlines Fokker F-28 Fellowship made an emergency landing today after a jet turbine disintegrated in flight, ripping a large hole in the fuselage, airport officials said.

The cabin depressurized after the plane’s body was punctured, and some oxygen masks failed to work properly as the plane made its descent, passengers aboard the flight from Charlotte, N.C., to Columbus, Ohio, said. There were no reports of injuries after the pilot, noticing a fire indicator signal, decided to put down in Charleston.
