After last season, Tom Candiotti realized he had to use his head as much as his knuckler.

Candiotti, who went from a 16-game winner to an 18-game loser a year ago, continued his revival and that of the Cleveland Indians with a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins at Cleveland Thursday night.

“I really had a good knuckler tonight,” Candiotti said.. “It was a good mix of pitches, a good brew. I knew I needed a better blend of pitches after last year.”

Candiotti (2-0) allowed 8 hits, struck out 6 and walked 3.

Joe Carter and Mel Hall hit consecutive run-scoring singles as Cleveland broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning against Charlie Lea (0-2) as the Indians (8-2) posted their best 10-game start since they went 10-0 in 1966.
