In the arts: “Chris Burden: A 20-Year Survey” opens today at Newport Harbor Art Museum in Newport Beach. The exhibit includes assemblages, works on paper and sculpture by the UC Irvine graduate, as well as “relics” from his controversial performance works. (In 1971, he had a friend shoot him in the arm and called it a work of art; in 1972, he threatened to cut the throat of television interviewer Phyllis Lutjeans during her program “All About Art” on a local cable channel--he called the performance “TV Hijack”.)
