A 6-year-old girl was killed and four other people were wounded, one critically, when a man fired 20 to 30 shots into their house in the Compton area Sunday night, authorities said.

The man ran to a lime green Cadillac and sped away from the house in the 3600 block of E. Josephine Court in an unincorporated area of the county near Compton, Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Roger Hom said.

The five people were sitting in their living room when the man walked up to the house and began shooting at 8:21 p.m., Hom said. The man apparently did not enter the house.

In addition to the killing of the girl, a man was critically wounded, a 14-year-old boy was shot in the abdomen and two other people suffered undisclosed wounds, Hom said.

Deputies had not determined a motive for the shooting, Hom said. “They’re not saying that (it is gang-related) at this time,” he said.

The gunman was described only as a black man in his 30s. It was not immediately known what kind of weapon he used.
